Why use HDPE?
HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is used to make products such as milk bottles, detergent bottles and food trays and are one of the major contributors to waste problems in the UK, accounting for around 50% of all plastic packaging produced. There is an estimated 600 thousand tones of HDPE being produced in the UK annually with only 7–10% currently being recycled. It poses a huge problem in UK landfill, and wasted embodied energy and is therefore the focus for Cohda's recycled designs. The more waste plastic we can re-use the better.
